The new SuperUtes series is set to replace the Holden vs Ford V8 Utes in 2018.

With almost 1 in 5 of us buying a ute these days, the series has been developed to cater to a growing ute market in Australia.

Holden's given us its first official look at the Colorado SuperUte, complete with roll cage, competition wheels and a tough racing look.

“Colorado has been engineered to handle anything thrown at it by our customers, from inner city and suburban roads to rural highways, dirt roads, and off-road," said GM Holden's Emma Pinwill.

“The race track is no different and we are confident Colorado will carry on Holden’s winning tradition.”

Engine performance will be strictly controlled to 340bhp performance with a minimum weight of 1800kg applying to all models.

Supercars has picked out a range of control components including roll cages, gearboxes, brakes, tyres and springs and dampers to ensure parity and cost control.

“With official testing having commenced last week and six models approved for racing, the SuperUtes Series will commence in 2018 with a very strong field and what will be great racing," said Supercars CEO James Warburton.

Ross Stone Racing's taken up the job of building the first Colorado SuperUte which will hit the track for testing in the coming weeks.
