Records Fall In Sydney

The question has to be asked after a near flawless weekend.

Jamie Whincup was a man on a mission at Sydney Motorsport Park.

The 6-time champion claimed the record for all-time Supercars wins with a comfortable victory in Sunday's race.

The Holden driver also holds the record for most championships, pole positions and race wins.

So is he really the best ever?

"Of this era, he's the greatest, there's no doubt about that," said team-mate Craig Lowndes.

“It’s hard to say he’s the greatest of all time as different eras have different greats.

“It was just a matter of time before he beat it. He’s a great, determined driver and for as long as he puts his backside in a race car he’ll win races.”

After finishing on the podium on Saturday behind winner Fabian Coulthard, Whincup followed up by winning Sunday and bagging most of the points.

It reduces the gap to series leader Scott McLaughlin from 129 points to just 12 with the endurance races to come.

A check of the winner's list reveals Whincup clear of a several of the sport's greats including Peter Brock and Alan Moffat.

With the DJR Team Penske rising as an ever more dominant force in Supercars, there's no denying a 7th Virgin Australia Supercars Championship would be Whincup's greatest yet.
