Almost Time To Go Racing

It doesn't mean much, but Lee Holdsworth was the quickest guy on Mount Panorama this morning.

Preston Hire Racing's man unleashed the best time of the 20 minute warm-up before giving his co-driver Karl Reindler a go in the last five minutes of the session.

Just 0.0753 seconds separated the top five as the drivers enjoyed an early shakedown before the race start.

“It’s such a long day today and anything can happen with this weather,” said Holdsworth.

“This morning I feel like we’ve made some headway. To do that time felt quite comfortable. It feels like a good race car.”

Forget about the predictions of a washout.

The forecast afternoon rain has been wound back to 1-5mm but a number of teams decided to break in their wet tyres anyway.

An overnight rule change meant the tyre allocation was increased just in case the heavens open.

Shell V-Power Racing's Scott McLaughlin and Alex Premat will start from pole position after yesterday's record lap by the 24 year old New Zealander.

One man who'll be hoping to turn his fortunes around this weekend in Red Bull Holden Racing Team's Jamie Whincup.

Starting 11th, the team worked through the night swapping the engine and switching brake pad manufacturers after signs of cracked discs on Thursday.

“Jamie is happy with the car this morning, so that’s the most important thing," said team manager Mark Dutton.

"PD (Paul Dumbrell) is comfortable too, he said the brakes need a bleed, so we’ll give that a tune-up."

The Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 starts at 11.10am Eastern.

The race is live on Fox Sports and Channel Ten and we'll be covering the action with regular updates on air and online directly from Mount Panorama.
