You'd be forgiven for thinking it was 1994 all over again.

Mobil 1 HSV Racing have taken the retro theme for this weekend's Sandown 500 to a whole new level.

This is the kit Scott Pye and Warren Luff will fang around the Springvale, Melbourne circuit and it's even giving Ford fans goosebumps.

The blue-and-white colour scheme wrapping the VFII Commodore is a near mirror image of the Tom Walkinshaw Racing/Holden Racing Team Commodore livery run by Peter Brock and Tomas Mezera 24 years ago.

“As a driver, it's a huge privilege to drive such an iconic car for such an iconic brand this time of year," said Pye.

Hard-nosed fans will also know it was the year a young Craig Lowndes (nicknamed "The Kid) broke through with a memorable co-driver appearance in the Bathurst 1000.

The car you see here will display #02, paying homage to Peter Brock's iconic #05 he raced with for much of his career.

“To have the blue and white of Mobil 1 on the car is a real privilege. It’s something everyone in the team is really excited about, and something we hope all the fans will love,” said Motorsport manager Mathew Nilsson.

“When you think about celebrating the history of Walkinshaw Racing for Retro Round, the blue and white Mobil 1 branded Commodore with Brocky at the wheel is one of the first things that springs to mind.”

Mobil 1 HSV Racing aren't the only team paying tribute to Brock this weekend.

Erebus Motorsport are running David Reynolds and Luke Youlden in the colours Team Brock won the 1976 Sandown enduro with.
