For the first time since 1993, legendary V8 Supercars driver Russell Ingall, will not buckle up in the drivers seat for the Bathurst 1000 race and it's fair to say he isn't taking it too well.

Speaking on the Dead Set Legends, Ingall compared his retirement to giving up smoking.

"The hardest bit is sitting right here, watching the cars go out on the track and it's just tough," Ingall said.

"It's not like going to a normal track because of the stigma of this place and the history ... I'm sitting here going 'really'.

"Not that I've ever smoked but it would be like giving up smoking."

Ingall is a two-time Bathurst 1000 champion after winning the famous race in 1995 and 1997.
