The panel beaters will be busy after a string of heavy crashes at Turn 6 at Sandown Raceway on the weekend.

But there could be bigger headaches to come with the spotlight now on the high speed bend where nearly all of the smashes took place.

Sunday's Wilson Security Sandown 500 was interrupted for an hour after Taz Douglas after colliding heavily with the barriers at Turn 6.

That's how long was needed to carry out the extensive repairs to the armco.

It meant the 500 was suspended for the second year in a row after James Golding was involved in a similar crash after suffering a puncture.

Douglas wasn't the only driver to come to grief at Turn 6 this year with Todd Hazelwood coming to grief during Saturday's co-driver race.

His Commodore became airborne after some biffo with Jonathon Webb on track.

When the race resumed, it was Ford's day to brag.

Cameron Waters and Richie Stanaway led home a blue oval trifecta that included Scott McLaughlin, who built his championship lead up to 84 points.

Next up, the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000.
