Shell V-Power Racing's (Not So) Secret Weapon

A French Revolution?

It's no surprise the Team DJR Penske squad better known as Shell V-Power Racing have the fastest cars in Supercars right now.

Well, it's certainly no shock in pitlane.

The defection of a little known engineer from the world beating Triple Eight Racing to the dark... errr... red side appears to have something to do with it.

Frenchman Ludo Lacroix is widely considered as having played a key role in Red Bull Racing's dominance as Jamie Whincup and Shane Van Gisbergen tasted title glory.

But the balance of power has shifted with the technical mind landing with the Ford team.

Penske boss Tim Cindric says it's no coincidence.

“I’ve heard people say he’s just brought some set-ups or whatever else, but I think the set-up on a Commodore is a bit different to an FG X.

“It’s not a matter of taking a Triple Eight set-up, putting it on this car and going quicker," Cindric told Supercars.com

“Ludo understands how to make the cars go quick and how to manage a team through a race weekend."

With the squad topping the team and drivers standings, how much faster can they go?

“I don’t think we’re at the summit by any means,” said Cindric.

“We have a long way to go. I feel like we’re still getting over the transition of coming to a race track hoping we can succeed and instead we’re expecting to be in a position to exceed."

Expect that expectation to rise once more at Winton this weekend.

After Scott McLaughlin's cakewalk at Barbagallo, it's unclear how other teams will respond at the popular venue in country Victoria.

Practice begins at 10.50 (AEST) on Friday morning.
