The Supercars Stars You Should Support Based On Your AFL Team

Lowndsey = Hawks..?

We're proud to be officially partnering with Supercars in 2017. As the season hots up, and the action breaks down on Triple M, if you're wondering who to get around, here's our (not very serious) guide to the top drivers and teams according to who your footy team is.

SYDNEY SWANS = Mobil 1 HSV Racing Team

Both grand old teams, famous in their class (Walkinshaw/South Melbourne), under a cool new badge. Traditional powerhouses and plenty of wins to their name down the years. They’ve suffered pretty shocking starts to the season but there’s been signs of recovery and they’re aiming for top ten finishes this season before launching for 2018.

MELBOURNE DEMONS = Nissan Motorsport

Both smashed through barriers for women in sport in 2017 as Melbourne played the first AFLW game and (Melbourne-based) Nissan made Simona de Silvestro the first full time female driver in Supercars.

RICHMOND TIGERS = Tekno Autosports

Never boring, always controversial, always being talked about. And who can forget the shocking “worst crash in Supercars history” earlier this year that left driver Will Davison with a lower back fracture? If any footy club frequently resembles a car wreck, it’s Richmond.

HAWTHORN HAWKS = Craig Lowndes (TeamVortex)

The best - especially in their own minds. Fast, brilliant...but can mess up from time to time as we’ve seen the Hawks do in 2017. Arrogant? Them? Maybe a bit, but they’d say you can be when you're the best. Not backwards in whinging about engineers/umpires when things go wrong. Still bloody brilliant, to be fair.

COLLINGWOOD MAGPIES = Red Bull Holden Racing Team

A huge following that is passionate, obsessive, and often maligned by outsiders. Always the centre of attention in the game and perhaps feel like other teams are riding their coattails, even when they themselves aren’t always winning. Not that that’s been such an issue for the Supercars team since Red Bull came on board and splashed the cash. Collingwood fans will wish for a dominance of their sport such as their Supercars equivalents are enjoying.

GWS GIANTS = Shell V-Power Racing Team

Not short of a dollar or two, the quality of their young talent is highly impressive. The wait for their first championship surely isn’t going to last much longer. A strong team who are the ones to beat at the moment.

GEELONG = Prodrive Racing Australia

Never to be underestimated and always there to be pick up the points if someone stumbles. This could be said for the Cats and PRA. Both have links to Ford and while form's been an issue for Mark Winterbottom, Chaz Mostert and the boys at times, there's no doubting their talent. Things do a get a little frosty in Geelong too, much like Winterbottom's nickname.

WESTERN BULLDOGS = Brad Jones Racing

Blue collar, hard working and humble, these are blokes who are bloody good at what they do and not afraid of knuckling down when it comes to the crunch. The Doggies and BJR share plenty in common, though the latter wouldn't mind some of the secret sauce that saw these underdogs (pun intended) claim a drought-breaking Premiership cup last year.

Any other footy club/Supercar team equivalents we missed..?
