History Repeating?

Ford fans will be doing a double take at Mount Panorama this weekend.

The #5 Falcon will be dressed in the white, blue, red and black Allan Moffat and Colin Bond wore to a one-two finish in The Great Race 40 years ago.

Yep, it's a tribute livery that'll run on Mark Winterbottom and Dean Canto's entry across the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 weekend.

Frosty says they got Moffat's OK to run with the stripes.

“That moment in 1977 was iconic, we all know it, and to run not only the colours but have Allan’s blessing and support behind it is pretty cool,” said Winterbottom.

“He loves the livery, he’s pretty proud of his one. The ’77 car was probably his most memorable car, so to see our car in the livery he got a bit emotional."

But with the colours of greatness on his car, does Winterbottom feel any more weight on his shoulders?

“We feel the pressure to live up to the colours and the history. It’s a great feeling, but it does add a bit more pressure to perform.”

A couple of years on from winning the Championship, Winterbottom hasn't topped a podium for almost a year but is hoping to turn things around at Bathurst.

“We have nothing to lose. It’s a nice feeling not to have that pressure and just have a crack, but at the same time you’d rather be in a good position in the championship," he said.

“But we won’t hold back. We’ll be aggressive and do what we need to do to win it.”

Another famous Moffat livery will also be on track this weekend.

Allan's son James is carrying a 1987 livery on his Garry Rogers Motorsport Holden.
