The dust has barely settled on a thrilling finale to the 2017 Virgin Australia Supercars Championship finale in Newcastle that saw Jamie Whincup snatch his 7th title.

But already the wheeling and dealing for 2018 is well underway.

In fact, much of the grid is already locked in.

A number of Supercar vets are hanging up their helmets - at least full-time.

Todd Kelly and Jason Bright are done.

While Dale Wood and James Moffat will be missing when the Adelaide 500 rolls around in March.

With that comes some new(ish) and much younger faces.

21 year old James Golding gets Moffat's drive at Garry Rogers Motorsport.

Anton de Paquale, 22, slips into Woods' car while another 22 year old - Dunlop Super2 Series champ Todd Hazelwood - earns a promotion to the top tier with Matt Stone Racing.

After an impressive steer at Bathurst, the highly-rated Richie Stanaway will get a seat at Prodrive.

Another new team is 23Red Racing - born out of what's left of Lucas Dumbrell Motorsport.

Veteran Will Davison will drive the team's sole Ford in 2018 after moving from Tekno Autosports.

Speaking of Tekno, Jack LeBrocq is firming to suit up for the team as its new driver.

Which leaves Todd Kelly's empty seat at Nissan Motorsport.

22 year old New Zealander Andre Heimgartner's just been confirmed in the #7 entry.

The changes behind the scenes will lift Ford's contingent to 8 cars on a grid with 14 Holdens and 4 Nissans.
