A 14-year-old youth has been charged with armed robbery following an incident in Tasmania's North.

Police responded to a reported robbery at the United Service Station on George Town Road, Newnham Tuesday night.

The armed robbery occurred at 9.25pm when the young man entered the service station, allegedly brandishing a knife.

Detectives from Launceston CIB yesterday arrested and charged the youth.
