Emergency crews are currently attending to power outages that have resulted from the storms across Sydney.

Currently, power is cut to 17,500 homes and businesses in suburbs in northern Sydney.

Impacted areas include:

  • Lane Cove
  • Gladesville
  • East Ryde
  • Hunters Hill
  • Riverview
  • Ryde
  • North Ryde
  • Boronia Park
  • Tennyson Point

The issue started at roughly 3pm, with Ausgrid estimating the restore time for 5.30pm.

Emergency crews from Ausgrid are working to restore power to about 17,500 homes and business across Sydney's North and Lower North Shore after severe storms moved across the area. Multiple lightning strikes have been observed across the region and power supply was interrupted just after 3pm. The main areas impacted are Gladesville, Hunters Hill, Lane Cove, Ryde, Lane Cove West, Putney, Riverview, Tennyson Point, East Ryde, Huntleys Cove and Woolwich. We are working to locate the fault and get power back safely as quickly as possible. If you spot fallen powerlines never approach them, stay at least 8metres or 2 car lengths away and report them to Ausgrid immediately on 131388. Storm debris can also hide fallen wires so do not approach fallen or damaged trees. Ausgrid would like to thank customers for their patience this afternoon.

- Ausgrid spokesperson

Crews are currently investigating the cause for the cut.
