There has been another arrest in relation to an Airlie Beach cold case. A 33 year old man was charged yesterday for his alleged role in the murder of Jay Brogden in 2007. He was originally extradited from Sydney to Brisbane in relation to another matter and faced Brisbane Magistrates Court yesterday afternoon. Police believe there’s still more information out there and are predicting there’ll be more arrests. Anyone with information is asked to call Crimestoppers.

Mackay appears to have been only a minor winner in yesterday’s Federal Budget announcement. While almost thirty million dollars was assigned to upgrade Shute Harbour Road there was no mention of extra funding for the Mackay Ring Road. The City has been named as a spot for one of sixteen new agencies for Aboriginal Hostels Limited as well as one of ten regional cities to gain a Small and Medium Enterprise Export Hub.

Good news for our Sugar farmers though with a twenty million dollar grant announced to support the transition of the Mossman Mill from a traditional sugar mill to a bio-refinery. $2.2B has been committed to improving safety on our states roads. The RACQ receiving a total of $4.4B for a list of projects including over $730M for the Bruce Highway. RACQ Head of Public Policy Rebecca Michael is good news for Mackay locals who are regularly in the driver’s seat.

A Sarina man has been airlifted to Townsville Hospital after a birthday celebration went horribly wrong. The 36yr old suffered significant burns to his face, chest and arm when the wick of fireworks he was lighting at home exploded. He was taken from Mackay Base Hospital to Townsville in a serious condition just before six last night. Police have said usually he would be charged for unlawful possession of explosives but they have taken his injuries into consideration.
