Worried about breaking down and what it means to keep on keeping on with a space saver spare tyre? Using this type of tyre means that there are a few important safety tips you need to be aware of. The most important thing to remember when reaching for your space saver tyre is it's only a temporary solution, so what do you do? Well, with these helpful tips, you'll be back on the road in no time!

Here are the important safety guidelines when using space saver spare tyres:

Tip 1

Fit only the space saver tyres provided by the vehicle manufacturer for your vehicle model (Replacement tyres offered by reputable tyre companies may also be used provided they match the original equipment specifications).

Tip 2

Temporary use spare tyres are not designed to travel long distances. If you are unsure of the condition of the space saver spare tyre, check it before driving the car.

Tip 3

Do not attempt to fit a temporary use spare tyre to any other rim.

Tip 4

Always use space saver tyres strictly in accordance with the vehicle manufacturer's instructions. As a general rule of thumb, do not exceed 80km/hr or drive for more than 80km.

Tip 5

Carefully observe the manufacturer's recommendations for any limits on speed, tyre pressure, load and safe travel distance.
Note: Inflation pressure will not be the same for the temporary spare as the primary tyre. This information can be found either on a placard near the spare tyre or in the vehicle handbook.

A spare tyre is easily recognised by their unusual design (yellow rim) and compact size. The spare is lighter and smaller than your usual motor vehicle tyres.
