Hobart gave Ovation of the Seas a standing or cruising ovation today.

This ship is massive at 348 metres long, nearly five times longer than the height of the Wrest Point tower and is the largest cruise ship to visit Tassie, overshadowing previous record holders Celebrity Solstice (314m) and Voyager of the Seas (311m).

This Ovations of The Seas is not just long, but packed with 6500 passengers and crew on this trip which is the first of a number of trips to Hobart over the next year.

Hobart gets it's first views as Ovation makes its way up the Derwent past Long Beach

The $US1 billion ship is so big it required Macquarie wharves 4 and 5 to be upgraded to accomodate her, but with the expected injection of tourist dollars into our economy it's said to be a good investment.

Hobart Harbour is dwarfed by the massive Ovation of the Seas on it's first visit to the Southern Captial

Royal Caribbean International is the operator of the ship and estimates up to $20 million would go into the Australian economy with the 14 stops nationwide.

Ovation berthed at Macquarie Warf which was remodelled to make way for the biggest ship to ever dock in Hobart

The Ovation will return to Hobart again on December 18 and will stay docked for the day then as well.
