Settlers Tavern has been listed in the Wineslinger Awards 'Top 50 Best Places To Drink Wine In Australia'.

The Wineslinger Awards were created by Young Gun of Wine to provide an insider's guide to Aussie's best wine venues, and to encourage "creativity and excellence" in the industry.

The final 50 are decided by a national panel of 100 winemakers, sommeliers and journalists, and include everything from high class restaurants to boltholes. But each are chosen specifically for their menus "where wine is the hero and where it's served with a sense of fun and adventure".

And among great company is our very own Settlers Tavern in Margaret River!

The tavern is currently owned by Karen and Rob Gough, who took up the lease in 2003 after working for a decade importing Australian wine into California.

“In 2003, you couldn’t buy any wine from outside Margaret River, couldn’t get a decent coffee, couldn’t get a meal outside the hours of 12–2 pm and 6–8 pm. We saw a need. We began with a few wines from other states – and were not too popular for that! But how things have slowly changed."

- Karen Gough

It's the second consecutive year that the venue has made it into Wineslinger's Top 50, something Karen and Rob are both proud of, to get "Margaret River wine on the map".

Voting is now open to the public for the People's Choice Award, with great prizes up for grabs.

In the meantime, it's the perfect excuse to celebrate with a glass of wine. Cheers!
