A botched call has badly cost the New Orleans Saints in today’s National Football Conference final against the LA Rams.

With a spot in the Super Bowl on the line and the Saints leading 23-20 with just under two minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, what appeared to be a pass interference call was not given by the referees.

The Rams went back up the other end and scored a game-tying field goal through kicker Greg Zuerlein.

Zuerlein then went on to score a monster game winning field goal from 57 yards in overtime, sending the Rams to the Super Bowl in Atlanta and the Saints out with their tails between their legs.

The 26-23 result seemed highly unlikely earlier in the match, with the Saints winning 13-0 at one point and the Rams struggling.

But LA turned it around and will now face either the New England Patriots or Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIII on Monday February 4 Australian time.
