Not seen since 1930 in Tasmania, one Triple M listener may have spotted the first Thylacine (Tasmanian Tiger) on mainland Australia for 2,000 years.

Shaun from Gawler rang through to Triple M Adelaide this morning to talk about his discovery.

“I was doing my usual routine from Gawler to Kadina,” Shaun told Roo and Ditts.

“I was about 5km over the other side of Mallala.

“I’ve done this trip two weeks shy of a year.

“I’ve dodged a koala and a few roos, and I expected another roo as I see something come out of the bush.

“And it just ran across about 30m in front of me and I couldn’t believe what I saw.

“To me, 100%, a Tassie Tiger.”

Understandably, Roo and Ditts were a bit sceptical of a Tasmanian Tiger being spotted anywhere, let alone anywhere outside of Tasmania itself, but Shaun was adamant.

“I saw the hind legs and the way the tail was, and I thought ‘that doesn’t look normal’

“I pulled over straight away and thought ‘no way’.

“So I Googled pictures of it (Tasmanian Tiger) and thought ‘mate, it’s got the same arse.

“As soon as I saw that, I looked across and five distinctive white lines on its back.”

When questioned whether it could be another animal like a fox, Shaun was certain it was a Tasmanian Tiger.

“(It was as big as) an average sized dog,” Shaun said, “Blue Heeler size I reckon.

“It definitely wasn’t a fox.”

As farfetched as the story seems, you have to take Shaun’s word for it.

It doesn’t sound too farfetched to believe the Tassie Tiger has spent the last 87 years since its last official sighting devising a way to cross the waters between Tasmania and South Australia.
