A 20-year-old Townsville woman is in custody following the alleged theft of a vehicle at Edmonton yesterday.
At around 2pm yesterday, a truck driver was in the process of loading vehicles onto a car transporter outside a depot on Vickers Street at Edmonton. During the loading procedure, the driver realised that a sedan which had been parked on the street and was due to be loaded had been stolen.
The stolen vehicle returned a short time later and a woman was seen to get out of the passenger side before the vehicle then drove off. The driver detained the woman and Edmonton police attended the scene and took her into custody.
A utility that was located parked nearby was subsequently found to have been stolen from the Whitsunday area on March 4.
The initial stolen vehicle was subsequently located at an address in Millhouse Close at Edmonton at around 6.45pm. Both vehicles were seized for forensic examination.
Further investigations resulted in the woman being charged with a total of 19 offences including multiple counts of entering premises and stealing, fraud, unlawful use of motor vehicles and stealing. She was also charged with one count of possession of a dangerous drug.
The charges arise from offences allegedly committed at Withcott, Mackay, Cannonvale, Bowen, Ayr, Townsville and Edmonton between January 10 and yesterday.
The woman is scheduled to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court later this morning. Investigations into the incidents are continuing.
