"The internal trial has had to be canceled due to the number of players that will be unavailable due to the AFL Health and Safety protocols."

Adam Kelly, head of Footy at the Adelaide Football Club, joined The Rush Hour to discuss the cancellation of the club's upcoming internal trial and the state of the players after Covid 'ripped through the club'.

"That number is 16 across confirmed cases, close contacts, and those unavailable due to injuries."

Kelly assured us that this is a minor setback:

"It's not going to have any medium or long-term impact on our program."

With a month still to go before the start of the season, Kelly is thankful it gives the players enough time to recover before round 1:

"I don't think there's ever a good time to contract Covid but as far as availability for round 1 of the season, the players will be back and available."

"Given their mild symptoms, we imagine that within the next 3 or 4 days they'll get back to some sort of exercise within their isolation. We don't anticipate it having a performance impact on our season."
