Maths genius Adam Spencer joined the Hot Breakfast this morning and explained the actual likelihood of winning Powerball.

LISTEN HERE:

“You’ve gotta pick seven numbers out of 35 to be in the running,” Spencer said.

“Now there’s 6.7 million ways you could do that — that’s roughly the population of all of Victoria.

“So to get that seven out of 35, I’m thinking of a random person in all of Victoria, you have to name them for me.

“Then, if you get all seven of those, you have to hit the Powerball, which is another 1 in 20 chance, taking the overall odds to one in 134,490,400.

“So you’ve gotta pick a random person in Victoria that I’m thinking of, they’re thinking of a random number between and 1 and 20, you’ve gotta guess that as well, bing bing bing, you win the money.”

Sounds easy right? Powerball has jackpotted to $60 million this week, so if you fancy your one in 134 million chances, buy a ticket!
