AFLPA CEO Paul Marsh has hit back at former St Kilda coach Grant Thomas for his comments about drug use at the Saints, suggesting Thomas's figures are "made up" and "ridiculously overblown".

PAUL MARSH'S FULL CLIP FOR GRANT THOMAS:

Thomas claimed on his podcast that drug use at St Kilda was "rife" during his coaching tenure in the early 2000s.

Marsh replied to those comments on Triple M's Rush Hour with Jars and Louie, saying Thomas was unequivocally incorrect in what he said.

“We obviously have a far greater knowledge of what goes on in our industry than what Grant does,” he told Triple M's Rush Hour with Jars and Louie.

“It’d be fair to say that our knowledge and experience around this issue is not consistent with Grant’s view.

“I’d suggest those numbers are just made up. It’s not the case, what he’s put forward."

Marsh said that it wouldn't be right to say players do not take illicit drugs, but the issue wasn't close to the extent Thomas made it out to be.

“We know that illicit drugs are an issue in society, particularly the age group that our players fall within," he told Triple M.

“I’m not going to sit here and say that we don’t have some players using illicit drugs, but the sort of numbers that Grant were talking about were just ridiculously overblown.”
