Questions have been circling around whether Townsville water restrictions will be lifted, and while the answer is a bit vague, Townsville City Council have a response.

At yesterday's TCC meeting it was decided that water restrictions will be eased, but interim water conservation measures will remain until the 3-point water security solution is delivered.

What exactly does that mean for you and your lawn?

Townsville Mayor Jenny Hill says residents will now (from Friday) be able use their sprinklers and automatic irrigation from dusk till dawn 3 days a week on an odds and evens system.

“Council has eased water restrictions now that the dam levels have risen but we want to ensure the community continues to be water smart,” Cr Hill said.

“If our community uses water wisely we will have sufficient supplies in the dam until the 3-point water security solution is delivered.

“Our Water Smart package will also support resident to transition to a more efficient use of such a precious resource.

Townsville Water and Waste Committee Chair Cr Russ Cook said these interim measures will be in place until the 3-point water security solution is delivered.

“We want to ensure Townsville’s water is secure now and into the future,” Cr Cook said.

“We thank residents for reducing their water use so we could get through the drought until the big wet.

“Council understands how important our water is and that’s why we want to ensure we preserve such a precious resource while still allowing residents to use water when they need it.”
