Alice River Bridge Recovery Project Will Take Most Of 2019 To Complete

The monster monsoon has transformed our town, and our roads. 

In March Hervey Range Road opened after the severe weather event, but there's still one road block that will take time to recover. 

Alice River Bridge will be out of action for most of this year after coping a hard hit from the flooding. 

Department of Transport and Main Roads (Queensland) have been keeping the public updated via their Facebook page. 

Not only is almost half the bridge missing, but it's foundations have taken a knock as well. 

"We're still undertaking engineering assessments to determine the best way to manage the extensive damage to the Alice River Bridge on Hervey Range Road, from the recent flooding," the page wrote in March.  

The latest update on April 18 from those working on the project is that it will be fixed over a six month timeline. 

"RoadTek crews started earthworks around the bridge foundations to backfill sand that was severely eroded by floodwaters. Rock material will then be placed around the bridge piers to prevent further erosion," the Department of Transport and Main Roads (Queensland) page wrote on their Facebook page.
