As huge thunderstorms hit the central coast on Tuesday, there was one local who took advantage of it to make a daring escape.

Due to heavy rain at the Australian Reptile Park causing high water levels, a 200kg alligator was able to escape over a semi submerged fence. Fortunately for us Central Coast locals, the reptile wasn't on the loose for very long and was quickly captured by zookeepers.

Zookeeper Jake was holding the gators mouth during the capture and told Paddy and Rob Palmer how it happened. 'It was something a bit different for the start of our week' he said 'usually it (the fence) is alright but when the water comes up a foot or two, those gators take advantage of it'.
