Anthony Mundine Refuses To Stand For The National Anthem

Anthony Mundine has again sparked controversy by declaring that he won't stand for the national anthem before his blockbuster rematch against rival Danny Green, saying it's racist.

""It's a racist anthem and doesn't represent our people. It's disrespectful to our people," the controversial boxer told News Corp Australia on Monday.

He's called on singer Jessica Mauboy to not go ahead with singing the anthem at the Friday bout in Adelaide because "it's not for our people. They are just using her because she is black."

With fear of pre-fight controversy, awkwardness and Mundine being booed for his stance, event organisers are now in talks with broadcasters Foxtel to find a solution.

In similar situations in the USA, the anthem has been played before the fighters enter the ring. An official said they will “probably do the same thing”.
