More than a dozen people were arrested as hundreds of protesters took to the streets only hours after the Premier announced a statewide snap lockdown on Thursday.

The anti-lockdown rally saw protesters gather outside Flinders Street Station at 7pm before moving down Swanston Street chanting "freedom" and 'no more lockdowns'.

Officer made 15 arrests, but according to Assistant Commissioner Luke Cornelius there could be more as authorities trudge through CCTV footage to identify offenders.

"Four of the offenders who were arrested or fined are known to police as protest organisers," the Assistant Commissioner said.

"They have been dealt with previously and it is expected will be presented to court on appropriate charges, such as incitement."

Meantime, Victoria reported six new local Covid cases on Friday, with two of those announced on Wednesday and linked to the Al-Taqwa College teacher who tested positive on Wednesday.

All six cases are linked; however, none were in quarantine during their infectious period.
