UPDATE: A man's in custody following a crime spree across the Hunter this morning.

Staff at the Telarah IGA were threatened by a knife-wielding robber and ordered to hand over cash and cigarettes just before 9:30am.

It's believed the same man then robbed The Junction Village Pharmacy a short time later.

The suspect was arrested at the Heatherbrae Shell at 11am.

He's assisting police with their inquiries at Raymond Terrace police station.

Dozens of police, along with the POLAIR chopper were involved in the manhunt.

EARLIER: Police are investigating whether two armed robberies in the Hunter this morning are linked.

A man armed with a knife has threatened staff at the IGA supermarket at Telarah at around 9.30am Thursday before taking off with cash and cigarettes.

No one was injured.

Less than an hour later, a man robbed The Junction Village Pharmacy on Kendrick Street.
