UPDATE: The former partner of Gold Coast Titans cheerleader Breeana Robinson has officially been charged with her murder almost six years ago.

The 45-year-old from Nerang was arrested on Friday and faces charges of murder, damaging evidence with intent and attempted fraud.

He was due to appear before Southport Magistrates Court on Saturday.

It will be alleged he caused Ms Robinson to fall from his Southport apartment balcony in 2013, with new evidence from a bio-mechanics expert giving police the breakthrough they needed.

EARLIER: A major breakthrough in the cold case death of Gold Coast cheerleader, Breeana Robinson.

Police confirmed the arrest of a 45-year-old man, over the death of the 21-year-old woman nearly six years ago.

Breeana died after falling from her 11th floor apartment in Southport on January 29, 2013.

A man was taken to the Southport watch house on Friday morning, with detectives expected to charge him with murder, fraud and damaging evidence with intent.

Detective Inspector Brendan Smith said the arrest was the culmination of years of hard work by detectives.

“The investigative team has left no stone unturned in identifying the circumstances of Breeana’s death demonstrating the passage of time is no escape for offenders,’ he said.
