Police have arrested two men following yesterday's shooting at Jesmond.

Detectives canvassing the area near the Newcastle Road unit where a 27-year-old was shot in the hand and thigh discovered a stolen Holden Commodore and a single-barrel shotgun yesterday.

It's alleged the car had connections to an armed robbery investigation, which led to officers executing a search warrant a home in Rudd Street, Lambton before arresting a 20 and 24 year old last night.

The oldest of the pair was charged with discharge firearm with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, possess prohibited firearm, and steal motor vehicle and was refused bail before facing court today.

While the youngest man is being treated in hospital and will be released into police custody once he's been discharged.

The shooting victim remains in a serous but stable condition in the John Hunter Hospita
