Riots and protests have continued overnight across the United States following custody death of unarmed black man George Floyd in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Many Queenslanders would be familiar with Tim Arvier, the former A Current Affair journalist who now plies his trade as US Correspondent for 9News.

Reporting for the network, the journo got caught up in the police crackdown and was detained at gunpoint along with his camera crew by Minneapolis police.

The city of Minneapolis is currently under curfew since the beginning of the riots however press is exempt from these restrictions and is allowed to travel freely.

Speaking live from the US on The Big Breakfast this morning, Arvier described the tense situation where he was handcuffed and held by law enforcement during in the midst of the latest flash point in US race-relations.
