The iconic 'Cardwell Croc' Bismarck has been sent off with a touching ceremony on the Cardwell jetty.

The 80-100 year-old reptile was often spotted minding his own business on the shores of Cardwell and became a popular tourist attraction along the tropical strip.

Given his age Bismarck was never a threat to the public, and had a reputation of never approaching humans.

News broke early this month that the almost 5 metre croc had been found nearby shot dead in Meunga Creek.

On Saturday Australia Zoo representatives were among the 100 people who threw flowers off the jetty to say their last goodbyes.

It's been reported that other aggressive crocodiles have already moved into Bismarck's territory.
