The Australian Medical Association has warned if the lockdown restriction remain the same in Greater Sydney, we can expect the outbreak to continue indefinitely.

President Omar Korshid is expecting an announcement from the Premier today on non-essential retail and non-essential work.

He's told Seven tighter restrictions are needed to prevent a longer lockdown including travel radius.

"If you can get on top of this and really get those numbers to start coming down, that's the way to actually shorten the lockdown. If we leave it the way it is, we can only expect the lockdown to continue indefinitely," he said.

We are expected to be updated by NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian later this morning.
