The Millicent Skate Park will be the stage on which skaters, scooter and BMX riders from across the Limestone Coast will perform when the Australian Skate Park Leagues hold a skate competition in the town next month.
The event is a joint initiative of the YMCA, Skate Australia and Wattle Range Council and will be held on Saturday, October 13. The League will also facilitate a free volunteer training day on Friday, 12 October for interested volunteers and officials.
This event will be the only event of its kind held in the Limestone Coast. It will allow youth to ‘get down’ and compete in skate, scooter, or BMX categories at the prominent Millicent Skate Park.
“The Millicent Skate Park is the most superior skate park on the Limestone Coast. It was professionally designed with input from competitive skaters and it is well utilised in all seasons by both locals and visitors,” Wattle Range Council’s Chief Executive Officer, Ben Gower said.
“The Millicent event allows our skate park to be showcased to keen BMX, scooters & skaters across the Limestone Coast. Furthermore, as a national pathway to participate in additional state and national finals series.
“Skate Park Leagues will be running a training day for Wattle Range locals who will be helping run the event. They will be learning about how an event like this is organised, and what happens behind the scenes. It will involve sport specific training including judging, officiating, and event management. It will provide training and personal development for young people. We look forward to then seeing these locals in action working and volunteering at the event on October 13,” Mr Gower added.
The competition to follow on the Saturday, will run from 11 am to 4 pm and will feature:
Scooter: 14 & Under, 15 & Over
BMX: 14 & Under, 15 & Over
Skate: 12 & Under, 16 & Under, Open’s (male & female)
