An eight-week old baby boy remains hospitalised in a stable condition after an unassembled tent weighing 50 kg fell on him in Sydney’s south.

Paramedics treated the infant about 4:30pm yesterday in Helensburgh when the tent reportedly fell from the roof of a 4WD onto his baby capsule, the Illawarra Mercury reports.

NSW Ambulance crews arrived within three minutes of the accident, with the baby airlifted to Sydney Children’s Hospital for treatment.

“The medical retrieval team confirmed the baby was fairly stable and he's been transported more for observation than injury,” NSW Ambulance Inspector Matt Sterling said.

“Mum was transported to care for the child in case there's ongoing care – things like breastfeeding have got to be considered.

“Also, so the child has got that familiar face there as well.”
