Australia's biggest name in beach volleyball wants to see the beachfront stadium at Coolangatta stay.
Olympic champion Natalie Cook is planning to lobby for the venue to remain where it is after the Commonwealth Games, believing it would become the home of the sport.
With big crowds visiting the venue during the Games, Ms Cook told News Corp - keeping the stadium could keep the Gold Coast on the world map.
Gold Coasters were promised the dunes would be put back to the way they were once the Commonwealth Games wrap up, however Ms Cook believes having a semi-permanent facility could even open up the possibility of beachfront music concerts.
Mayor Tom Tate is waiting to see what locals think of the idea before weighing in.
