New South Wales has recorded 207 new covid cases overnight with Premier Gladys Berejiklian pleading for everyone to join the effort to get 80% of Sydney vaccinated by August.

89 were in isolation for their whole infectious period, 21 were isolated for part of their infectious period whilst 51 were infectious in the community. Sadly a Southwest Sydney man aged in his 90s has passed away. He had received one dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine.

Workplaces and households remaining the main places of transmission.

Meanwhile, Berejiklian says a combination of reducing the case numbers and increasing the vaccination rates will see Sydney gain freedoms back sooner.

“Can I stress that August is the month where we all should come forward and get vaccinated. I have been saying for some months that 80 per cent of the adult population vaccinated would get us freedoms beyond no more lockdowns and that is 10 million jabs,” she said.

The number of vaccinations is at 4 million. At 9.4 million, the vaccination rate will be 70%. Currently, there are half a million jabs administered per week with the Premier mentioning anything above that being “a bonus”.

“It means if more people come forward and get vaccinated, we get out of our existing situation sooner than we otherwise would. That is the real strong message I want to send to everybody,” she said.

In particular, young people are being urged to roll up their sleeves for the jab with revelations people between the ages of 20 to 40 are most likely to get the virus and then spread it.
