"Best Birthday Present Ever!": Oakey Woman Scratches Up $10,000

An Oakey mum is planning a trip to America after she won $10,000 on a $1 Instant Scratch-Its ticket she received as a birthday present.

The $1 Treasure Chest Instant Scratch-It’s ticket given to the lucky Oakey woman as a birthday gift has resulted in a trip to the USA after she scratched up $10,000!

Speaking with a Golden Casket official to claim her prize, the happy winner explained how she came to hold the winning ticket.

‘It was a birthday gift from my mother. I got a few Instant Scratch-Its from her and I was almost finished scratching them when I got to this ticket,” she explained.

“My family said, ‘oh you could win $10,000 on this one’ and I said ‘don’t get excited, it won’t happen!’.

“I had won about $12 on the tickets I’d already scratched and I was already so happy and then I got this ticket and saw I’d won $10,000 and I just thought ‘is this for real? No way! It can’t be!’.

“I made my mum check it a few times to see if it was real!

“My mum was so happy for me when I won.

“We were jumping up and down, screaming ‘oh my god, oh my god!’

“It’s the best birthday present I have ever received and it certainly stopped me from sooking about being old!”

When asked how she planned to spend her instant windfall, the Oakey winner said she knew exactly what she was going to do with it.

“We are going to use it towards a trip to America. We want to go on a cruise, so this will certainly help,” she admitted.

“I also celebrated on the weekend with a few drinks with my mum. I was in the best mood and I still am!”

The winning $1 ticket was purchased at Oakey Newsagency, 103 Campbell Street, Oakey, owner Ken Pott said he was thrilled to have made one of his customers $10,000 richer.

“We feel really good about it! It’s wonderful to know we have helped make her $10,000 richer, especially on her birthday,” he said.
