Billy Brownless says Geelong has implemented a league-first coaching panel shake-up ahead of the 2022 season, with a couple of tactical changes likely to follow suit.

The Cats have added Eddie Betts and James Kelly to their coaches' box, losing Matthew Knights, Matthew Scarlett and Corey Enright - but that's not all.

Brownless said the Cats have completely revamped the way their coaching setup works, with coaches for the defence, midfield and forward line now no longer a part of their setup.

"Down at Geelong I'm hearing that they've got no line coaches this year, so no backline, no forward line, no midfield coach," he explained.

"I'm hearing they're going to play on a bit more and a bit quicker, if you want."

Nick Riewoldt applauded the "different lens" the Cats were applying an coaching.

"I like it. If you look at say, the NFL for example, they have a head coach who's more a manager for all intents and purposes, and then an offensive coordinator and a defensive coordinator."
