Billy Connolly Apologises To Fans, Denies He's "Slipping Away"

Billy Connolly has apologised to fans in a candid video posted to Twitter, denying that he's "slipping away" while happily playing the banjo.

The 76-year-old made headlines late last week when he suggested he is "near the end" of his battle with Parkinson's disease in a new BBC documentary, Made In Scotland.

But Connolly refuted his earlier claims in the jokey clip, which was filmed and posted to wife Pamela Stephenson's Twitter account on Sunday. 

"Not dying, not dead, not slipping away, sorry if I depressed you," the comedian said cheerfully.

"Maybe I should have phrased it better."

The update has come as something of a relief to fans, who were alarmed by Connolly's comments about "being prepared for something, some other adventure which is over the hill".

"My life, it's slipping away and I can feel it and I should," he said in the two-part documentary. "I'm 75, I'm near the end.

"I'm a damn sight nearer the end than I am the beginning. But it doesn't frighten me, it's an adventure and it is quite interesting to see myself slipping away."

Connolly, who diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in 2013, also compared the ongoing illness to having somebody "in charge of you and they're saying, 'Right, I added all these bits when you were a youth, and now it's time to subtract'".

"I don't have the balance I used to have; I don't have the energy I used to have; I can't hear the way I used to hear; I can't see as good as I used to," he said.

"I can't remember the way I used to remember."
