Due to fluctuating levels of Blue-green algae in the Murray River a Red Alert has been issued for parts of the region.

Affected areas include the Mildura Weir pool - extending from the Chaffey Bridge to Lock 11 and the Weir.

The Mildura Marina is also affected.

The alert warns people not to undertake recreational activities where they may come into direct contact with the water, such as swimming, showering and washing.

The algae has been detected from Red Cliffs to Lake Cullulleraine.

Potable treated water supplied to townships remains suitable for drinking.
