Armstrong Renata, the man who killed Brisbane teenager Cole Miller during a random one-punch attack in Fortitude Valley last year, has been sentenced to 7 years in prison for unlawful striking causing death.

18-year-old Miller, an aspiring water polo player, was walking through the nightclub precinct with friends on January 3, 2016, when they were attacked by four men. He suffered massive brain trauma and died in hospital the following day.

The court has been told it was the punch itself that killed Miller, and not the injuries he received from hitting his head on the ground moments after.

Renata was reportedly brought to tears as heartbreaking statements were read from Miller's parents, who have described the ordeal as a "nightmare".
