Melbourne will experience eased lockdown restrictions from Thursday, June 17 at 11.59 pm.

Acting Premier James Merlino confirmed that restrictions would ease across Melbourne, despite 55 active cases across Victoria.

"We have waiting to see those people and places that we love, which is why I am very pleased to confirm that on the advice of the Chief Health Officer, the Metropolitan border and the 25 kilometre limit will be removed, and the state will come back together from... tomorrow night."

Changes to restrictions in Melbourne include:

  • 25km has been lifted
  • No restrictions on travel between regional and metro
  • Up to two visitors a day (plus dependents)
  • Gyms and indoor entertainment centres to reopen
  • Offices to reopen up to 50% or 20 people, which ever is greater
  • 20 people can gather outdoors
  • 75 mourners at funerals
  • No more than 20 at weddings

Regional Victoria's restrictions are easing to:

  • Up to five visitors per day
  • 50 people outdoors
  • 100 mourners at funerals
  • 75 at weddings

James Merlino encouraged Victorians to get tested and vaccinated if eligible, especially as we get further into winter.

"It's no exaggeration to say that the single most important thing every Victorian can do is to get tested as soon as they have the mildest of symptoms. As we head deeper into winter - this becomes more important than ever. We can't assume that a scratchy throat is the sign of a winter cold. FInd out for sure - get tested."

Our daily Covid check shows 10,602 Victorians received a covid vaccination in the past day with a total of 1,755,849 doses so far.
