A teenage boy has drowned after getting into trouble while jumping off rocks at Bar Beach this afternoon.
The 16 year old was with a group of friends on the northern headland near Susan Gilmore Beach at around 3:30pm.
The boy didn't resurface following a jump.
A major emergency response was launched to find him, involving surf lifesavers, police, paramedics and the Westpac Rescue Helicopter.
The teen was located by the helicopter and winched out of the water.
He was taken to Cooks Hill SLSC but sadly he couldn't be revived.
“What we have seen today is a rapid and co-ordinated response from emergency service using their diverse range of skills, technique and knowledge in a valiant attempt to avert this tragedy which will touch many within the community," SLSNSW CEO Steven Pearce said.
“On behalf of the entire Surf Life Saving family I would like to extend my sincere condolences to the family and friends of this young man,” said Mr Pearce.
