The Brisbane Heat have won their first Women's Big Bash League final, defeating the Sydney Sixers in a thriller at Drummoyne Oval.

The Sixers made 7/131 off their 20 overs, with Ellyse Perry (33) top scoring and a late flurry from Dane van Niekerk (32) boosting what looked like a low score.

Beth Mooney top scored for the Heat, anchoring the chase with 65 off 46 balls despite battling exhaustion, but her wicket sparked a mini collapse for the Heat.

The Heat needed 34 off 36 balls with eight wickets in hand when Kirby Short (29) and then Mooney went out.

But a four from Laura Harris to deep square leg off Marizanne Kapp gave the Heat the won with four balls remaining and three wickets in hand.

It thwarted the Sixers' chase for their third consecutive WBBL title.
