A major breakthrough has been made here in Brisbane in the fight against COVID-19.

A team at the University of Queensland have created a research program that will be rolled out at 50 hospitals nationwide in the very near future.

Speaking on The Big Breakfast this morning Director of University of Queensland Centre for Clinical Research, Dr David Patterson told Marto, Margaux and Nick Cody that it was a case of back-to-the-future with the potential drugs of choice to fight Novel Coronavirus.

“Using an old drug, we used to use for HIV infection … it seems that that does have activity against the Novel Coronavirus… We’ve also found that an old drug we used to use for Malaria also works”
