Western Downs Regional Council is requesting that anyone currently using the existing Chinchilla standpipe to access bulk water, to commence using the new standpipe on Aerodrome Road, in front of the Chinchilla Water Treatment Plant.

The old standpipe in Railway St, around the corner from the Botanical Gardens, will continue to operate until the 3rd May.

Council spokesperson for Utilities, Councillor Peter Saxelby said that the new location can accommodate multiple vehicles.

“The standpipe was built at the same time as the water treatment plant, with an interest in improving commercial vehicle access,” Cr Saxelby said.

“Water will continue to be available for collection between 7am-7pm every day.”

Drinking quality water can be purchased from any of the Council’s standpipes in Chinchilla, Miles, Dalby, Wandoan and Jandowae.

Anyone wishing to purchase water from a standpipe can apply via the Council’s Customer Service Centre.
