A bullet and a warning of a shooting has been found at the former primary school of Barnaby Joyce ahead of tomorrow's New England by-election.

According to the Daily Telegraph, the NSW police have confirmed the incident, but have emphasised that it does not appear to be part of an attack on the former deputy prime minister.

However, it was confirmed that there will be polling booths at the Quirindi Public School.

It is understood that the bullet was found with a 'graffiti note' warning of a shooting at the school.

The items were uncovered by police on November 21 and an investigation is underway.

“Police from the Oxley Local Area Command are investigating after the discovery of an item and graffiti at an educational facility in Quirindi,” a NSW Police spokesman said, reports The Australian.

More to come.
