Carlton Dry stubbies are set to go back to their twist top roots after the ring pull caps proved highly unpopular, according to the Herald Sun.

The twisties will return in March.

“We’ve listened to our consumers and it’s clear they prefer opening their beer the more traditional way,” Carlton Dry brand director Brian Phan told the Herald Sun.

“So we’re going back to twist tops. It wasn’t broken and we shouldn’t have tried to fix it.”

The ring pulls were only launched in October, along with a video explaining how to use them:

The ring pulls proved exceedingly unpopular, with a Facebook page called “Boycott the new Carlton Dry bottles” popping up and drinkers even posting photos of their fingers being cut up by the new packaging.

Carlton Dry also explained the drop of the stubby size from 355ml to 330ml, saying that it was to avoid a price rise.

“To keep our prices unchanged on the 330ml bottles we’re not passing on any of our increases in production costs for a 12-month period and we won’t pass on the federal government’s February increase in beer tax.”
