The extension followed a high-stakes cabinet meeting on Tuesday night.

Regional areas were not subject to an easing of restrictions, with the mask mandate and other rules set to remain.

Stay-at-home orders were also set to remain in-place until 11:59 PM on July 16, meaning students, freshly returning from their school holidays, would have to study online.

Epidemiologist, Catherine Bennett, said there were a number of factors to be considered.

“They need to keep [restrictions] in-place in order to keep that risk managed so that this doesn’t start to build again.”

27 new locally acquired cases were recorded across the state on Tuesday night.
